LAURENS Co. -- A year ago the Dublin Fighting Irish was knocked out of the second round of the GHSA playoffs in both football and basketball.
This year, the Irish vowed it wouldn't happen again.
Dublin defeated Thomasville 23-7 at the Shamrock Bowl Friday night to move on to the 2A quarterfinals.
Corteveyas Mitchell and Jermaine Cooley would score two late touchdowns for the Irish that proved to be the difference maker after a defensive battle for most of the game.
Cooley added to his one touchdown that he scored in the first quarter while a safety off a botched punt helped give Dublin an 8-7 halftime lead.
Next week Dublin will face Heard County with the chance to move on the state semifinal game.
