Macon Coliseum gets new court, baskets for return of GHSA basketball tournament

Basketball championships will return to Macon / WGXA

MACON, Ga. -- The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) basketball tournament hosted at the Macon Coliseum is getting a face lift.

Commissioners approved $175,000 for new goals and a new court.

The tournament left the Macon Coliseum last spring because of misalignment on the court and hoop measurements and moved to the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. It had been held in Macon every year since 1968.

In September, the GHSA announced that the annual championships would once again return to Macon thanks to the company Spectra.

The Macon-Bibb County Commission voted for Spectra to take over management of the Centreplex in May 2016.

Four classes of basketball championships will play on March 7 and 8, 2018. The other four classes will play at Georgia Tech on March 9 and 10, 2018.
