A new era began on Monday night. For the first time in Bibb County history, there was high school girls volleyball. All public schools (except Rutland) started their initial seasons in the sports. A pair of tri-matches went down in the county.

Central hosted Northeast and Howard. Northeast won both of their games, while Howard defeated Central in the first game.

The other tri-match happened at Southwest with the Patriots, Westside, and Peach County.

This sports now gives girls another option in athletics. One that was long overdue in most administrators eyes. "With them adding volleyball, it really changes the game. Especially for our basketball players and for those girls that dont participate in athletics period. It brought out a lot of different girls that have never participated in athletics and now they're participating in it. I think that's a good thing for us" said Northeast head coach Kevin Grooms.
