Bacon are playoff bound in inaugural season after Bananas eliminate Red Wolves
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Macon Bacon aren't quite ready to stop the sizzle in their inaugural season.
With the Savannah Bananas 2-1 win over the Florence Red Wolves Saturday night, the Bacon are officially headed to the Coastal Plain League playoffs.
They were one win away from clinching a spot in the postseason, but Mother Nature had other plans in Lexington County, S.C. Saturday night. After severe rain cancelled the Bacon's game with the Blowfish, the Bacon's playoff destiny rested solely in the hands of the Savannah Bananas.
Entering tonight, the Bacon were tied with the Florence Red Wolves for second place in the South Division. The cancelled game in Lexington County meant that the Bacon needed the Bananas to beat the Red Wolves to secure second place.
The Bananas took care of business, winning a tight 2-1 contest at Grayson Stadium in Savannah. This means that the first round of the CPL playoffs will feature an all-Georgia matchup.
The Bacon will travel to Savannah tomorrow for the team's first ever postseason appearance. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m..
