SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Macon Bacon haven't been able to figure out the Savannah Bananas at Luther Williams Field so far this season, losing five straight home games to their in-state rivals. Fortunately for the Bacon, they've been able to handle themselves at Grayson Stadium in Savannah.
The Bacon improved to 3-7 on the season against the Bananas with an 8-0 win Saturday night. This win puts the Bacon back over the .500 mark again, with a 15-14 record on the season.
Zach McCambley took the mound for the Bacon and held Savannah scoreless across 5.1 innings. He struck out five hitters en route to the win.
Matt Minnick and Holden Nix came in relief and combined for 3.2 innings of shutout relief to give the Bacon their third shutout victory of the season.
At the plate, Macon was led by Zach Weisz, Cal Gentry, and Jackson Jones, who all collected two hits on the night. Weisz also led the team with Jared Kapturasky by driving in two runs.
The Bacon will be off until Tuesday as the Coastal Plain League celebrates its All-Star Show weekend. They return to action on Wednesday when they return to Savannah to take on the Bananas for the 11th time this season. First pitch at 7:00 p.m..
