Late surge powers Savannah past the Bacon
The Savannah Bananas have had quite the dominating hold on the Battle for the Golden Spork, and on Wednesday night they won it. They broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 9th, scoring 3 runs to get the 4-1 win. The Bacon now fall to 5-6 in the 2nd half of the Coastal Plain League season. They are now 0-6 against the Bananas at Luther Williams Field. Savannah now officially wins the Golden Spork trophy with their 9th win over Macon this season.
The Bananas got the scoring going in the top of the 4th. Bill Leroy hit a RBI single to give them a 1-0 lead. Macon would tie the game in the bottom of the 7th off a Andres Perez RBI single. It would be 1-1 into the top of the 9th. A Clay Duggan sac fly, Cade Marlowe RBI single, and a Jake Sullivan RBI double helped the Bananas to the win.
Brayden Belden had a got start for Savannah giving up 1 run off of 4 hits and striking out 3 in 7 innings. For the Bacon, Preston Sparks gave up 1 run off of 9 hits and striking out 3 in 6 innings.
Up next, the Bacon will travel to Lexington County on Thursday. First pitch will be at 7 pm.
