Mayhem dominate to take Game 3; and series from Evansville

It was all Macon from start to finish on Sunday afternoon in the third and deciding game of the SPHL Challenge Round. The Mayhem routed Evansville 8-0 in the Centreplex to take the series.

Charlie Finn was dominant for the Mayhem stopping all 40 shots he faced. All 8 goals were scored by 8 different guys. Ian Ecklund got things started in the first period by redirecting a shot at the 12:15 mark to give them a 1-0 lead. Dakota Klecha added the 2nd on a breakaway at the 4:27 point.

In the 2nd period, Kevin Irwin added his 4th goal in the last 2 days with a rebound at the 18:15 mark to make it 3-0. Dylan Vander Esch added right after a power play expired at the 9:15 point in the 2nd.

The Mayhem would break things wide open in the third period. Daniel Gentzler scored 4 minutes in to make it 5-0. 9 minutes later John Seimer made it 6-0. 40 seconds after that, Jake Trask made it 7-0. Then a minute and 7 seconds after that, Stathis Soumelidis added the final goal of the game to give the Mayhem at 8-0 win.

Up next, Macon will play in the SPHL semifinals. Their opponent and schedule will be announced on Monday.
