New England Patriots select Sony Michel with 31st overall pick
DALLAS, Tex. -- The New England Patriots added two Bulldogs from the University of Georgia in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. They selected UGA running back Sony Michel with the No. 31 pick Thursday night.
The Patriots also selected UGA guard Isaiah Wynn with the 23rd overall pick.
This marks the first time in the common draft era that UGA has had three players selected in the first round, per ESPN.
Michel was a part of a dynamic backfield in Athens in his four years with the team. He rushed for 3,638 yards and 33 touchdowns as a Bulldog.
In his senior season, he rushed for 1,227 yards and 16 touchdowns, the most memorable of which came in the second overtime of the Rose Bowl against Oklahoma, sending the Bulldogs to the national championship.
Michel's selection gives the Bulldogs three players selected in the first round of this year's draft. He joins Wynn and linebacker Roquan Smith (Chicago) as the other UGA players to be selected.
