Barmel Lyons joined the WGXA TV news team as a Multimedia Journalist in January 2018. You can watch her evening newscast throughout the week.

Barmel has always had a passion for people and storytelling and looks forward to getting to know the Macon community.

Barmel comes from South Florida and has recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Radio-Television specializing in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in sociology. (Go Knights!) At the University of Central Florida, she nurtured her passion for news, reporting, producing and anchoring for UCF Knightly news. She also worked as a TV host for Studio 17 Television – News Pop Orlando’s source for positive hyper-local news.

Barmel has had the opportunity to cover breaking news while interning at a variety of stations ranging from WESH 2 News, FOX 35 Orlando, CBS Radio and the TODAY Show in New York City.

Barmel’s professional affiliations include National Association of Black Journalists, Radio Television Digital News Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

When Barmel is not chasing down a news story she enjoys volunteering, skydiving, track and field and traveling.

She is a daring, rambunctious, go-getter with a free spirit who simply believes positivity is key. Realizing that it is more than just the characteristic of a global view which dictates her person; it is the combination of her constant pursuit of leadership, learning, and service, which sets her apart.
