Greg Loyd

EXEC. PRODUCER & ANCHOR

Greg Loyd serves as executive producer and anchor of WGXA News. You can see him weeknights on WGXA News at 5 pm on FOX 24 and at 6 pm and 11 pm on ABC 16. He joined WGXA in January 2021.

Prior to moving to Middle Georgia, Greg worked as a morning/midday anchor and morning executive producer at the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Ga.

Before Greg renewed his broadcast journalism career, he spent many years teaching composition in community colleges in Florida and Georgia. He loved empowering students by helping them discover the benefits of being confident communicators; however, the desire to be a journalist never left him, and he returned to television in 2016.

Greg holds a Master’s in English from Valdosta State University. He earned an undergraduate degree in Media Communication from The Florida State University with a journalism minor from Florida A&M University.

Greg started working in television at WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida, as a part-time master control operator. From there, he transitioned to production assistant and served as an intern in the news department during his senior year at FSU.

His first on-air job came from WALB in Albany where Greg worked as the Valdosta bureau chief. Later, Greg took a job at Albany’s WFXL where he worked his way from reporter to weeknight anchor.

During his time at WFXL, Greg co-anchored with Mercer Merrill Van Schoor, who would become his lifelong best friend and who helped him return to television news in 2016.

Greg’s loving parents, Geneva and David, influenced his life more than anyone else. Sadly, he lost his father in June 2022 and his mother in January 2023. Greg says he thinks of them every day and misses their daily talks. Both of his parents grew up working on farms, and that played a big part in his decision to launch WGXA's weekly "On the Farm" series that airs each Friday night at 5 pm on FOX 24 and at 11pm on ABC 16.

Greg’s has great admiration and love for his only sister Melanie and his brother-in-law Todd. In his free time, he enjoys vacationing with them.

Greg is proud to live in Middle Georgia and honored to be a part of the WGXA news team.
