Jayla Whitfield produces the 10 p.m. weekend newscasts on FOX24 and also works as a Multimedia Journalist weekdays for WGXA News. You can watch her on the evening and nightly newscasts on FOX24 at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. and ABC16 at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. She joined the WGXA News team in May 2018.
With a passion to report, edit and produce news, Jayla’s journalism career began in the Student Media Center at The University of Mississippi where she worked as an anchor for News Watch Ole Miss, the only news station in Lafayette County for multiple years.
Jayla has also completed multiple internships at stations and television networks across the south including WTVA 9 News and WMC Action 5 News in Memphis, TN. She graduated from The University of Mississippi with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Business Administration in May 2018. Jayla is a part of the 2018 class of Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities.
Jayla's previous experience at local news stations and national television networks have provided her with skills in reporting on both hard news and entertainment stories, as well as local and national news.
Jayla has also interned at hottytoddy.com where she reported on local stories in her college community. Her story, “Ole Miss Singing Traffic Officer Bring Positive Light to Students” received the 2016 top 50 stories of the year award.
Jayla has a passion for storytelling, philanthropy, service and volunteer work. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. When she's not bringing you the latest local news, Jayla enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and volunteering in the community. Reality TV shows like Empire, Star and Power are her guilty pleasure.
Jayla is extremely excited to get to know the community of Middle Georgia, and to be a part of the WGXA News family.
